Biography

Born and raised in Cremona , Davide Sora got his degree at the International Violin Making School of Cremona in 1982.

He started his professional activity in 1984 and in 1986 he opened his workshop at 22 via Decia, in Cremona, where he is still practising his profession along with his wife Annamaria Menta, also violin maker.

Always convinced that professional growth is also linked to the sharing of knowledge, over the years he has perfected his style and technique experimenting with different approaches to the construction of the instruments.

His work is mainly devoted to the construction of violins, violas and cellos according to the style of the ancient Cremonese school based on the internal form.

He concentrates his work to the making of new instruments with particular attention to the tonal quality and setting-up.

Great care is also given to the aesthetic aspect, always working to the highest level of workmanship.

All his instruments are registered in his personal archive with detailed photos and measurements as a guarantee against falsifications and his production is limited to three or four instruments per year.

He was awarded in four editions of Triennale Internazionale di Cremona: in 1991 with silver medal  for a viola, in 2003 with third prize for a violin , in 2006 with silver medal for the second prize for another violin, in 2015 with third prize and a special prize offered by the Polish Union of Artist Violin Makers for the violin with the highest acoustic qualities.

Since 2000 he has collaborated with the Violin Making School of Cremona within a project aiming to deepen the various aspect of violin making to the fourth year students.

In 2017 he was a violin-making workshop teacher at the same school.
